Field Trip to Texas A&M’s Corpus Christi Campus

Eastside Memorial Early College High School continues to raise high school retention and graduation rates, as well as post-secondary college attendance numbers in Austin ISD; utilizing support from campus resources such as the Early College and the College and Career Center. Both resources are taking extra measures to provide individualized student support systems and expose students to a diverse variety of college and career paths available to them.

This past November, the EMECHS’s College and Career Center invited students on a unique and engaging tour of Texas A&M’s Corpus Christi campus. College and Career Advisor, Kiera Hurst, took 25 students on an interactive tour through campus, where they were given an opportunity to take part in current department exercises, one including the Fine Arts Dept. where students created their own skit production with college theatre students. Student’s also attended a campus-wide club and dept. fair, where they learned of all the majors and minors offered. With so many surrounding universities, Hurst makes it a point to show students the opportunities beyond Austin.
